Arts & Education Partners
Alison Waldman is a photographer, graphic designer, writer and performer based in Washington, DC. A Contradiction Dance company member since 2011, she designs all of the company's marketing materials and photographs her peers in rehearsal and class. Alison collaborates with fellow artists and offers classes and workshops in movement for adults and kids. View her work and book her at www.alisonwaldman.com.
Joe's Movement Emporium
In fall 2014, Contradiction Dance began a residency at Joe's, one of our favorite venues. It is used as our primary rehearsal space and we will also hold classes, workshops and performances. This residency will also allow us to grow our creative collaborations with the greater Washington, DC community.
Story Tapestries: Arianna Ross
Our companies share a passion for artistic exchange, education, and literacy across mediums for all ages. From writing arts-integrated curricula for schools to performing on concert stages the world over, our combination of storytelling and dance inspires, enriches, and empowers all of those who share in the experience.
DC International School
Contradiction Dance conducts after-school dance classes at DC International School. Artistic Director Kelly King will be teaching Contemporary Technique and company member Alison Waldman will teach Latin Dance. We are thrilled to begin this new partnership to share our love for dance with those who need it most - our kids.
Anacostia Arts Center
Contradiction Dance has performed in the nooks, crannies and galleries of Anacostia's newest arts center as part of our on-going site-specific series #DanceAboutDC as well as two full evening-length pieces in their black box. We have also thrown after-parties with their in-house cafe Nurish. Contradiction Dance looks forward to premiering Boundaries in Dec. 2014 at Anacostia Arts Center.
Co-founded by company member Emily Arden, ReCreative Spaces is focused on an initiative to build community through short-term arts-oriented programming in unused, under-used, and unlikely spaces. Working with property owners and developers seeking to drive awareness and traffic into unleased spaces, ReCreative Spaces creates site-specific programming and events that cultivate artistic expression, community building, social collaboration, and civic participation.
The DC Collaborative, in partnership with their members, advances access to learning opportunities in the arts and humanities for all DC public and public charter school students.
